The Santa Maria to Red Hills Rehabilitation Road Works was the first of three phases to be realized. Works commenced in June 2012 and was completed in December 2012. The road way was improved to decrease travelling time and increase the level of comfort experienced by commuters travelling to Kingston from the Coopers Hill and Rock Hall Communities. This road also serves as an alternate route for the Bog Walk Gorge, which is often closed to commuters when the river is in spate after heavy rains. Major works surrounded the complete resurfacing of the corridor, with repair works carried out to parapets or headwalls and small areas of rock excavation along embankments to facilitate the widening of the roadway.
Other improvement works includes;
- Bushing
- Cleaning of Drains
- Rock excavation,
- Construction of Retaining walls,
- Side walls,
- Kerb walls,
- Concrete steps,
- Asphaltic concrete pavement.
